Where were the 2016 Summer Olympics held?

The 2016 Summer Olympics were held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This event marked the first time the Olympics took place in South America. The choice of Rio was significant not only for its cultural and scenic backdrop but also for Brazil's goal to showcase its development and commitment to international sports. The other cities listed, such as Tokyo, London, and Beijing, hosted the Olympics in different years—Tokyo hosted in 1964 and is set to host again in 2021, London hosted in 2012, and Beijing hosted in 2008—therefore, they are not the correct answer for the 2016 Games.
